Enzymes are found
in all living plant and animal matter. When your animal eats a mouse or lizard
in the wild the essential enzymes necessary for digestion are within that
prey because it is eaten RAW and the enzymes are alive. An enzyme is a protein
that regulates the rate of a chemical reaction in the body. There are thousands
of enzymes, each with a different chemical structure. Each enzyme has a
specific function that no other enzyme can fulfill, such as eliminating
toxins, converting nutrients to bone, nerves and tissue, liberating oxygen
and many other functions.
These important nutrients
also aid in elimination of toxins by the colon, kidneys, lungs and skin.
Iron is concentrated in the blood due to the action of enzymes, which also
help the blood to coagulate in order to stop bleeding. These vital proteins
promote oxidation, a process in which oxygen is united with other substances.
Energy is created in the oxidation process. They also protect the blood from
dangerous waste materials by converting these substances to forms that are
easily eliminated by the body.
Some indications
that your animal is lacking in enzymes are: gas, indigestion, abnormal bloating,
bad breath, body odor, skin problems or undigested food in his/her stool.

Enzymes are very sensitive
to heat. Even low degrees of heat will destroy enzymes and put undue strain

food! There are no cooked mice or birds in the wild. Cook is a four-letter
word as far as carnivores are concerned. All commercial foods for dogs and

Four types of
digestive enzymes are amylase, cellulase, protease, and lipase. Amylase
and cellulase break down carbohydrates; protease helps to digest protein
and lipase aids in the digestion of fats. The plant enzymes extracted from
papaya and pineapple, papain and bromelain respectively, are proteolytic
enzymes. These enzymes work on proteins exclusively, breaking them down into
small peptones by hydrolysis. Both papain and bromelain are very beneficial
if your animal has cancer. They eat the dead cancer cells. Lactase is the
enzyme that breaks down lactose, milk sugar, which is beneficial for those
who are lactose intolerant.
Enzymes play
a valuable role in treating diseases and disorders because if an animal
is not digesting his/her foods and has a malabsorption problem, their bodies
will not be able to assimilate and utilize the essential nutrients for healing.
