We believe that Organic ingredients are of higher quality and try to use organics whenever possible. The process to produce and achieve organic status by these high quality suppliers helps keep our environment clean and free of disease causing contaminants such as carcinogenic chemicals and pesticides. Almost all our herbal formulations contain certified organically grown or carefully wild-crafted herbs. We also utilize many certified organic fresh-freeze dried herbs and grind many of our herbs immediately prior to encapsulation.
Creation's Garden® is a member of the Organic Trade Association, a registered member of the Oregon Tilth and sponsor of the Organic Outreach Program. Our cGMP certification requires that we manufacturer accordcation requires that we manufacturer according to the over-the-counter pharmaceutical industry guidelines. We support organic organizations because we believe that by educating people about the health and environmental benefits of certified organic products, the supply of such products will increase. This will help in lowering costs, improving availability, improve the quality of life and, ultimately, continue to give us the ability to supply the best quality products at the lowest possible price. We must utilize some non-organic herbs in our formulas to maintain the highest efficiency of the herbal combinations. We have hope that organic products will be given wide recognition as the choice among consumers. Why Are Organic Foods Better? In light of the current out-break of diseases and the continued increase in world-wide human diseases; we must all become much more aware of the degradation of the food we consume. The improvement of this process will not come easily and will take time, but we can all do our part in improving the lives of our children and our children's children. We can all help by using Organic foods and applying the guidelines for which organic products are produced in our own lives, by using natural cleaners, soaps and fertilizers in our yards, for example. Organic products are produced or processed with products that adhere to strictly monitored guidelines containing no pesticides, fungicides, chemicals or irradiates. Organic foods are becoming more popular because of the need for a safer food chain and cleaner water. But because of the increased popularity and the pricing structures inherent to organic products, suppliers are misrepresenting their products. If an organic food does not have organic certification, then the product is not officially organic and may be misleading the consumer. This may seem complicated and it is, but the following answers the most commonly asked questions concerning organic products. What is organic certification? Organic produce must be grown in soil that has not been polluted by any pesticides, fungicides, or chemicals for seven consecutive years. To be purely organic, certification must be obtained from one of the federally regulated agencies such as the Oregon Tilth. Certification numbers are carefully administered after extensive guidelines are met by the growers and processors. Manufacturers must have 95% of the ingredients used certified organic to represent that there product is organic on the principle display panel (PDP) and at least 50% of the ingredients must be organic to represent that the ingredients are organic in the ingredient list printed on the label. If less then 50% of the products are organic, organic can not be listed anywhere on the label. If you want to be sure a product is organic, ask to see the certification of the manufacturer. Are pesticides in today's food supply really that dangerous? There is much debate over this point. However, many scientists argue that pesticides in food may indeed be a primary cause of cancer. Pesticide use increased from 300 million pounds in 1990 to more than 800 million in 1993 according to the EPA. In 1960, one in four people were expected to get cancer. In 1994 two in five people are expected to get cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute. That is a 60 percent increase in the probability of getting cancer over a 34 year period. The reason pesticides are linked to cancer is of the prevalence of pesticides believed to be estrogenic chemicals. What are estrogenic chemicals/pesticides? These compounds are derived from chlorine and are part of the organochlorine family. They are called "estrogenic" because they block the action of the human hormone estrogen, a compound produced by both males and females that regulates sexual and reproductive function. Research has linked some forms of cancer to organochlorine. Coincidentally, since the 1940's when estrogenic pesticides such as DDT were first used, the incidence of breast and prostate cancer has doubled and testicular cancer has tripled. These chemicals have also been linked to the drop in the human sperm count, now half of what they were 50 years ago. The World Health Organization estimated in 1989 that 1 million pesticide poisonings occur each year worldwide, resulting in 20,000 deaths. If produce is peeled and washed before eating, can pesticide contamination be reduced? Sorry, you can wash, peel and cook all you want, but non-organic produce will still be tainted with pesticides, according to a recent survey released by the USDA. The reports findings are disturbing. After washing and peeling fruits and vegetables collected in 1992, pesticide residues were detected on about 60% of the 5,750 samples. Many samples contained multiple residues. The report also found that non-organic apples sampled contained 25 different pesticides, 21 of which are carcinogenic, neurotoxic, and/or toxic to the endocrine system. Interestingly, 90% of the produce sold in the U.S. in January and February is imported from Mexico and Latin America, where the use of pesticides that are banned in the U.S. are commonly used. Lastly, remember that just because a product has "natural" displayed on the label, this does not necessarily mean that the product is good for you or that the ingredients are "natural". To the contrary, you can be sure that if a product is certified organic, at least 95% of the ingredients are organic.
